Set in 16th-century Japan after the Battle of Okehazama, Onimusha Warlords follows Hidemitsu Samanosuke Akechi as he searches for the kidnapped Princess Yuki. Her disappearance is linked to the Genma, a demonic force led by the revived Oda Nobunaga.

Samanosuke receives an Oni gauntlet that absorbs the souls of defeated demons, granting power for his fight through a dangerous castle. The adventure also features the kunoichi Kaede, whose abilities open routes unavailable to Samanosuke.

Samurai Action and Exploration

The game combines sword-based combat, exploration, item management, and environmental puzzles. Samanosuke uses melee weapons and swords associated with lightning, fire, and wind magic while facing varied Genma enemies. Fixed camera angles shape the tense atmosphere as players search the castle for items, secrets, and routes forward.

Souls, Equipment, and Combat

Defeated enemies leave souls that can restore health and contribute to upgrades for weapons and armor. Elemental attacks can be used against enemy weaknesses, while guarding and counterattacks offer options during close-range encounters. Boss battles place added emphasis on combat strategy and resource use.

Playable Characters

Although Samanosuke is the primary character, certain portions allow control of Kaede. Her skills, including lock-picking, provide access to distinct paths and help expand the castle’s exploration.

Onimusha Warlords is an action title developed and published by Capcom. It released for Nintendo Switch on January 15, 2019, with language support including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese.
