Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book DX is a role-playing game from Koei Tecmo, released for Nintendo Switch on April 22, 2021. This DX edition follows Sophie Neuenmuller, an aspiring alchemist in the town of Kirchen Bell.

After finding Plachta, a sentient book whose memories have vanished, Sophie sets out to recover the knowledge within its pages and help restore Plachta's human form. Their journey centers on alchemy, discovery, and the relationships formed along the way.

Alchemy and synthesis

Synthesis is central to Sophie's progress. Ingredients are placed on a grid, and their arrangement influences the properties and quality of the resulting item. Gathering materials, experimenting with placements, and creating useful equipment or consumables support both exploration and combat.

Exploration and requests

Sophie visits towns and wilderness areas in search of resources, landmarks, enemies, and new ingredients. Townsfolk offer requests that can provide rewards, reputation, and recipe opportunities, while daily observations and discoveries can also lead to additional synthesis options.

Party battles and character events

Combat uses turn-based battles with a party of characters, drawing on skills and crafted items. Equipment can be enhanced through alchemy, and side quests and character events expand Sophie's connections with companions, rivals, and other residents she meets.
