Arcaea is a music-focused arcade game for Nintendo Switch, released on May 18, 2021. Its rhythm challenges unfold in a ruined world where Hikari and Tairitsu encounter Arcaea, musical fragments that preserve memories of the past.

Songs gradually reveal the conflict, emotions, and differing viewpoints of the two girls. The narrative is presented through the game’s music and progression, connecting each completed track to the mysteries of the shattered setting.

Layered Rhythm Challenges

The game uses a three-dimensional playfield with three main note types: ground, air, and arc notes. Players tap, hold, and follow moving patterns with careful timing. Arc notes travel through the playfield and require directional holds or slides, creating more involved sequences than a standard lane-based rhythm chart.

Songs and Difficulty

Arcaea includes music across different styles, with charts ranging from introductory difficulty levels to demanding expert arrangements. Precise timing, reading incoming patterns, and maintaining combos are central to earning stronger scores.

Progression Features

World Mode lets players advance across a map to unlock songs. Partner characters have distinct abilities that can affect play and scoring, while the ranking system tracks scores against other players worldwide.
