Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a tactical role-playing game set in Fódlan, where Byleth becomes a professor at Garreg Mach Monastery. The academy brings together students from the region’s three major nations, and the house you choose—Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer—shapes your starting group and perspective on the conflict ahead.

The game combines life at the monastery with turn-based battles on grid-based maps. Teaching, activities, exploration, and conversations help students develop, while battlefield planning, abilities, equipment, and positioning determine how they perform when war reaches Fódlan.

Three paths through Fódlan

A growing political crisis divides the land, testing friendship, loyalty, and duty. Each house follows its own route through the story, with different students and viewpoints at the center. Ancient mysteries, unexpected developments, and the choices made along the way contribute to multiple narrative paths.

Teaching and character growth

Monthly monastery activities let players explore, take on quests, attend seminars, locate items, and spend time building relationships. Lessons and activities influence student development, while class certifications, skills, equipment, and support conversations provide ways to shape a roster. Students from other houses can also be recruited.

Tactical battles

Combat emphasizes careful movement, unit abilities, weapon considerations, and planning ahead. Support levels can provide advantages when compatible units fight together, and paralogues offer additional character-focused stories. Divine Pulse can rewind turns after a costly decision, while adjutants can assist units and gain experience during battle.

Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, Fire Emblem: Three Houses launched for Nintendo Switch on July 26, 2019. It supports English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
