Persona 5 Royal

04 About Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal follows Joker, a transfer student at Shujin Academy who discovers the ability to summon Personas after a false accusation changes his life. Joined by friends, he becomes part of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a group determined to confront corruption by entering the Metaverse.

This enhanced edition adds new narrative material to the original journey, including gymnast Kasumi Yoshizawa and school counselor Takuto Maruki. Their involvement leads into an additional third-semester storyline with a new Palace, antagonist, and difficult questions about reality, happiness, and sacrifice.

Life as a Phantom Thief

The game combines everyday social activities with dungeon exploration. Joker attends school, takes part-time jobs, and spends time with Confidants; developing these relationships provides useful benefits. Outside daily life, the Phantom Thieves investigate Palaces shaped by the distorted desires of corrupt individuals and seek their Treasures.

Turn-Based Battles and Personas

Combat centers on identifying enemy weaknesses to earn extra turns, initiate Hold Ups, and launch All-Out Attacks. Personas can be recruited and fused in the Velvet Room, allowing players to build a flexible collection of abilities for different encounters. Palaces include puzzles, enemies, treasures, and safe rooms, while Mementos offers a procedurally generated dungeon for side requests and training.

Royal Additions

Persona 5 Royal introduces traversal options through the Grappling Hook, along with new enemies, Disaster Shadows, boss battles, and refinements to Mementos. The Thieves Den serves as a customizable space for reviewing achievements, listening to music, and replaying cutscenes. The Nintendo Switch release arrived on October 21, 2022, published and developed by SEGA.
