About Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is a role-playing game from Koei Tecmo, released for Nintendo Switch in 2019. It follows Ryza, a young woman from Kurken Island who longs to find something beyond her ordinary village routine.

Joined by her friends Lent and Tao, Ryza sets out in search of adventure and reaches a forbidden island. There they meet an alchemist, beginning Ryza’s path into synthesis, discovery, and a summer that changes the group’s understanding of their home.

A secret hideout and island mysteries

Ryza and her companions establish a secret hideout for experimentation and planning. As their friendship develops, they investigate ancient secrets connected to the island’s past and face a threat to the place they care about.

Exploration and gathering

The adventure takes players across interconnected locations including forests and ruins. Materials found in these areas are central to progression, while hidden paths, treasures, quests, and requests encourage further exploration of Kurken Island.

Alchemy and combat

Alchemy allows Ryza to synthesize items, equipment, and other useful creations from gathered resources with different traits. Battles use an Active Time Battle system, with character skills, party roles, and the Action Order system contributing to the flow of combat.
