04 About ARMS

ARMS is a Nintendo-developed fighting game for Nintendo Switch, released on June 16, 2017. Its battles revolve around fighters with extendable arms, combining long-range punches, evasive movement, blocking, grabs, and charged attacks.

The competition is framed by the ARMS Grand Prix, where a colorful roster enters for different personal reasons, from fame and fortune to investigating the unusual ARMS phenomenon. The focus is on the contest and the personalities of its competitors rather than a heavily cinematic storyline.

Flexible fighting styles

Each fighter has individual attributes and can equip a separate ARMS weapon on each hand. These choices create different tactical pairings, including options with elemental effects such as fire, electricity, and ice. Players can curve punches toward moving opponents, charge strikes for greater power or elemental properties, and fill a meter to launch a Rush attack.

Movement and timing

Success depends on more than throwing punches. Dashing and jumping help avoid incoming attacks and reposition around the arena, while blocking can reduce damage and create counterattack opportunities. Grabs can break an opponent’s guard, though missing one leaves the attacker exposed. Choosing the right distance, anticipating movement, and varying attacks are central to each match.

Ways to play

ARMS supports motion controls as well as traditional button controls. Its listed modes include Grand Prix, Versus, and online multiplayer, providing settings for working through the tournament or facing other competitors.
