Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star is an action beat-'em-up from Marvelous Inc, published by XSEED Games for Nintendo Switch. Released in the USA on March 19, 2019, it continues its story in the digital realm of SE.RA.PH after the Holy Grail War.

The player takes the role of a Master who achieved victory beside Nero Claudius, only for a new danger to threaten SE.RA.PH. The conflict brings the Master and their Servants into a struggle against an unknown force connected to the Umbral Star.

Three Campaign Perspectives

The narrative is told through three campaigns led by Nero Claudius, Tamamo no Mae, and Altera. Each route presents a different viewpoint on the events affecting SE.RA.PH and its mysteries, while exploring the relationship between Master and Servant alongside themes of identity and sacrifice.

Sector-Based Action

Combat follows a fast-paced Musou-style format, with Servants taking on large groups of opponents across digital battlefields. Progress depends on moving between sectors, defeating important enemies, capturing territory, and protecting areas from invading forces and powerful foes.

Servants and Battle Tools

A roster of Servants offers different fighting styles, special moves, and attack patterns. Moon Crux and Moon Drive transformations temporarily enhance a Servant's power, while Extella Maneuvers deliver large-scale ultimate attacks. Code Casts provide additional skills and buffs that can support a chosen approach in battle.

Bonds Beyond the Battlefield

Dialogue and side activities can strengthen bonds with Servants. Building these relationships unlocks further story material as well as abilities, adding another layer to the campaign outside of sector battles.
