Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is an adventure role-playing game from Capcom for Nintendo Switch. Players take the role of a Rider, forming bonds with monsters called Monsties and traveling through varied regions alongside them.

The journey begins in Mahana Village as Rathalos disappear around the world. The grandchild of the legendary Rider Red meets Ena, who carries an egg left behind by the last Rathalos. When it hatches into a small black-winged Rathalos named Ratha, the group sets out to investigate a prophecy tied to ruin and the strange lights enraging monsters.

Riders and Monsties

Monsties are central companions in exploration and combat. Monster dens contain eggs that can be hatched to expand a party, while each Monstie offers its own field abilities. The Rite of Channeling lets players transfer genes and abilities between Monsties, creating customized combinations and potential gene bingo bonuses.

Turn-Based Battles

Combat uses a turn-based Power, Technical, and Speed system: Power defeats Technical, Technical defeats Speed, and Speed defeats Power. Reading an opponent’s attack tendencies, changing Monsties when needed, and targeting elemental weaknesses can shape each encounter. Successful actions build the Kinship Gauge, which can be spent on powerful Kinship Skills with a bonded Monstie.

Exploration and Equipment

The adventure crosses environments including forests and deserts, with wild monsters, hidden dens, quests, and materials to discover. Weapons and armor can be forged and upgraded from monster materials. Co-op quests and challenges are also available for players who want to take on activities together.
