Record of Agarest War is a role-playing strategy game for Nintendo Switch, released on March 9, 2023. Developed and published by Aksys Games, it is presented in English.

Set on a continent shaped by devastation and conflict, the game follows a family line battling the threat of the Overlord. Decisions made by one protagonist continue to influence the heroes who follow.

A Saga Across Generations

The story begins after a destructive war leaves five continents chained together. Leonhardt’s early choice begins a journey that unfolds over five generations, with each new protagonist facing changing conflicts, character relationships, and the continuing struggle to seal away the evil deity threatening the world.

Soul Breed Choices

At the end of each generation, the Soul Breed system lets players select a bride from several heroines. That decision determines the next generation’s lead character, including inherited traits and abilities. The system connects personal relationships to both the narrative and the development of the family line.

Grid-Based Tactical Battles

Combat uses turn-based battles on a grid, emphasizing party placement, action point management, elemental strengths, and individual character skills. Party members can coordinate attacks through the Combo Link system, creating powerful Link Attacks when their positions and attack sequences are planned effectively.

Character Growth and Exploration

Heroes can be strengthened through weapons, armor, accessories, skill-point allocation, new abilities, and equipment progression. World-map travel leads to story events, optional quests, battles, hidden areas, and items, while the evolving cast must be prepared for increasingly difficult encounters.
