I Am Setsuna

04 About I Am Setsuna

I Am Setsuna is a role-playing game developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and published by Square Enix. Released for Nintendo Switch on March 03, 2017, it presents a melancholy journey through a world locked beneath snow.

Setsuna has been selected for a ritual sacrifice intended to hold back increasingly dangerous monster attacks. Accompanied by the mercenary Endir and other companions, she travels toward the Last Lands, confronting questions of destiny, loss, and the worth of a life.

A solemn pilgrimage

The story follows Setsuna’s procession across snowy towns, wilderness, and dungeons. Each companion who joins the group brings personal motivations to the journey, while the approaching sacrifice gives the adventure an emotional and foreboding focus.

Battle system

Combat uses an updated Active Time Battle approach and occurs directly in explored areas rather than on separate battle screens. Turn timing, party composition, equipment, and abilities all play a role in overcoming enemies. The Momentum system can enhance attacks or add secondary effects when activated at the right moment.

Character customization

Spritenite lets players assign skills and magic to talismans, supporting different party builds and combinations. Fluxes can improve Spritenites, while materials gained from enemies can be used for upgrades. Exploration also includes hidden items, optional quests, and environmental paths beyond the main route.

Release details

I Am Setsuna supports English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Russian. It is a region-free Nintendo Switch release.
