Dragon Quest Builders 2 is an adventure and action game from Square Enix, published by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch. Released on July 12, 2019, it combines the Dragon Quest universe with open-ended block building, gathering, crafting, exploration, and real-time battles.

The story follows an apprentice builder stranded on the Isle of Awakening after a shipwreck. There, they meet Malroth, a youth with no memory, and begin a journey to restore lands damaged by the creation-hating Children of Hargon.

Build a world back to life

Players collect blocks, plants, and other materials to create tools, structures, farms, and rooms for island residents. Blueprints offer direction while freeform construction allows projects ranging from practical settlements to elaborate castles. Residents provide quests, hints, and new building ideas as their needs for food, shelter, and comfort are met.

Explore and fight

Different islands and biomes introduce fresh resources, inhabitants, ruins, and challenges. Combat takes place in real time against Dragon Quest monsters, with crafted weapons and improved tools supporting both battle and building. Malroth fights alongside the player and can break certain obstacles, making him useful when clearing terrain or gathering materials.

Cooking, farming, and shared construction

Growing crops and preparing meals help support the island's population and encourage more people to settle there. Exploration can uncover hidden items and rare resources, while later traversal options expand movement across larger areas. Online cooperative play lets up to three friends visit the Isle of Awakening to build together.
