Broforce is a platformer from Free Lives, published by Devolver Digital for Nintendo Switch in 2018. Its retro-styled action draws on 1980s and 1990s action-film conventions, sending an overpowered paramilitary team on missions against tyrants, terrorists, alien invaders, and other threats.

The campaign focuses on rapid shooting, platforming, rescues, and widespread destruction rather than a detailed narrative. Broforce travels across oppressed nations in the name of freedom, with missions commonly ending in a major boss encounter and a helicopter escape.

Changing heroes

Players control a large roster of “bros,” action-hero parodies with their own weapons and limited special abilities. Rescuing hostages can provide extra lives and replace the current character with another bro, requiring players to adjust to different attacks and movement options during a level.

Destruction-driven action

Levels contain enemies, hazards, traps, and structures that can largely be blasted apart. Destroying terrain can open alternate routes, bring debris down on opponents, or alter the battlefield. Combat ranges from fighting ordinary soldiers to confronting mechs, alien creatures, and large bosses.

Co-op and competitive play

Broforce supports up to four players in local or online cooperative play, where coordinated attacks and shared survival can be as important as managing the mayhem. A Deathmatch Arena also provides competitive battles between players.

Languages and release details

The Nintendo Switch release is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Russian. It was released on September 6, 2018, with Free Lives as developer and Devolver Digital as publisher.
