04 About World of Final Fantasy Maxima

World of Final Fantasy Maxima is a role-playing game from Square Enix for Nintendo Switch. It follows siblings Lann and Reynn as they awaken in Grymoire with no memory of their past and set out to uncover their connection to the world’s looming crisis.

Along the way, the twins meet chibi-styled Final Fantasy heroes known as Champions and gather creatures called Mirages. The story blends humor, self-discovery, and familiar Final Fantasy themes as the pair work to protect Grymoire.

Stack-based battles

Combat uses an Active Time Battle system alongside Mirage stacking. Lann and Reynn can change between Jiant and Lilikin forms, affecting how they fit into stacks with Mirages. Stack size, abilities, elemental affinities, and status effects all influence battle decisions.

Mirages and Champions

Mirages can be captured, developed, and evolved to gain stronger forms and skills. Players can experiment with different creature combinations, while Champion Medals allow iconic Final Fantasy characters including Cloud, Squall, and Lightning to assist in combat.

Exploring Grymoire

Grymoire includes varied locations such as forests and ruins, with light puzzles, hidden items, side quests, and optional activities. Certain Mirages, including Chocobos, can be ridden to travel faster and access new areas.

Maxima additions

The Maxima version expands the adventure with additional Champions, more Mirages, and a challenging dungeon available after the main game.
