Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda combines the world of Hyrule with rhythm-based exploration and combat. Developed by Brace Yourself Games and published by Nintendo, it released for Nintendo Switch on June 13, 2019.

The adventure begins after the sorcerer Octavo places Hyrule under a magical slumber and takes control of its rhythm with a powerful lute. Cadence is drawn from the world of Crypt of the NecroDancer and joins Link and Princess Zelda in an effort to break the curse and restore peace.

Move with the music

Movement, attacks, and encounters are built around the soundtrack’s beat. Staying in time is central to navigating danger and fighting enemies, while boss encounters call for careful timing and strategic decisions. Players can take control of Link, Zelda, or Cadence, each with different weapons, abilities, and approaches to combat.

A changing Hyrule

The overworld and dungeons are procedurally generated, giving each journey through Hyrule a different layout. Exploration can reveal hidden routes, puzzles, chests, rupees, equipment, and other useful discoveries. Legendary instruments play an important role in the quest against Octavo’s spell.

Adventure with roguelike challenge

Alongside its adventure and music elements, the game includes modes with permadeath for a more demanding roguelike experience. Items, gear, spells, and sub-weapons expand the options available when facing stronger foes, while learning enemy movement patterns helps players maintain control of the rhythm.
