Arcade Archives GALAGA is a retro shooter from Hamster for Nintendo Switch, released on January 5, 2023. It presents the classic arcade game’s space battles, where a lone starfighter faces formations of descending alien ships.

Players move across the bottom of the screen, firing at enemies while avoiding their shots and diving attacks. The action centers on surviving successive waves, clearing formations, and building high scores through precise shooting and quick reactions.

Alien formations and attacks

Enemy ships enter in patterned formations before breaking away to dive toward the player. Different attackers use distinct approaches, making it important to watch their movement and use the full horizontal range of the screen to evade danger.

The dual-fighter mechanic

Boss Galaga enemies can capture the player’s ship with a tractor beam. Rescuing that captured fighter creates a dual fighter, increasing firepower with two ships. This stronger setup also occupies more space, adding risk alongside its offensive advantage.

Bonus stages and arcade scoring

Bonus stages offer opportunities to earn extra points and lives, while regular stages reward effective wave clearing and consistent survival. The game retains the straightforward, demanding rhythm of an arcade shooter, with high-score play and enemy-pattern learning at its core.
