Baldur’s Gate & Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions combines two role-playing adventures set in the Forgotten Realms. Developed and published by BioWare, this Nintendo Switch release arrived in October 2019 and supports English text with English voice acting.

The collection follows the Bhaalspawn across two connected stories, from the events surrounding Candlekeep and Baldur’s Gate to the city of Athkatla in Amn. Political intrigue, personal choices, divine heritage, and dangerous journeys shape the saga.

Two connected adventures

The first Baldur’s Gate begins with an orphan raised near Candlekeep whose life changes after mysterious events force them into the wider world. The journey reveals their connection to Bhaal, the dead god of murder. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn continues the tale after the protagonist is captured by the mage Jon Irenicus, leading to an escape and a new conflict in Amn.

Party-based role-playing

Players create a protagonist using Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition rules, selecting from different races and classes. Companions can be recruited to form a party of up to six characters, with their own personalities, histories, and quests. Character growth includes new spells, feats, and class abilities, while equipment, inventory, and skills must be managed across the group.

Real-time tactical combat

Combat unfolds in real time but can be paused to issue orders and plan actions for the full party. Exploration covers cities, dungeons, wilderness, quests, hidden discoveries, and dialogue choices that can affect the story and relationships. Battles reward careful use of spells, party roles, enemy weaknesses, and tactical positioning.
