Darksiders Genesis is a Nintendo Switch action role-playing game released on February 14, 2020. Developed by Airship Syndicate Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic, it explores an earlier chapter of the Darksiders universe.

Set before the original Darksiders, the game follows War and Strife as they investigate Lucifer’s attempt to strengthen lesser demons throughout Hell. Their assignment grows into a wider conflict involving secrets, familiar figures, and a threat to the balance of creation.

Two Horsemen, Two Combat Styles

The adventure uses a top-down viewpoint rather than the series’ usual third-person presentation. Players can switch between War and Strife, combining War’s close-range attacks with Chaoseater and Strife’s pistol-based ranged combat using Mercy and Redemption. Both heroes bring distinct abilities and traversal strengths to battles and exploration.

Combat, Exploration, and Upgrades

Demon-filled areas feature enemy encounters, boss fights, environmental puzzles, platforming challenges, and hidden routes. Defeated creatures can yield cores that improve abilities and statistics, while weapons and special attacks can be upgraded. Searching areas carefully can reveal chests, souls, secrets, and locations that may become accessible with new abilities.

Campaign Play

The full campaign can be played alone or cooperatively with another player. Cooperative play allows War and Strife to cover different combat ranges, coordinate attacks, and approach difficult encounters as a pair. The game supports English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean.
