04 About Dragon Quest Builders

Dragon Quest Builders is an adventure role-playing game from Square Enix, published by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch. It brings the Dragon Quest universe together with creative block-based building, letting players gather materials, make equipment, and shape settlements across the ruined land of Alefgard.

After the Dragonlord casts Alefgard into despair, its people have forgotten how to create. As the Builder, you possess the ability to craft and construct again, using those skills to restore towns, aid survivors, and challenge the force that devastated the world.

Build a New Alefgard

Exploration provides the wood, stone, minerals, and other resources needed for construction. These materials can be turned into buildings, furnishings, tools, weapons, armor, and useful items at crafting stations. Players can freely place and remove blocks while also following blueprints for important rooms and structures.

Towns, Requests, and Defense

Residents offer requests that advance the story and reveal recipes, materials, and new opportunities. Creating suitable rooms and amenities helps settlements grow and draws in more people. Towns also need protection, as monster attacks can threaten them after dark, making walls and preparation valuable parts of building.

Explore and Battle

Alefgard is divided into distinct chapters with regions to investigate, treasures to uncover, and resources to find. Real-time encounters feature familiar Dragon Quest monsters, with crafted gear helping the Builder face tougher dangers. Once the main adventure is complete, Terra Incognita offers a separate free-build space without story constraints.
