DREDGE is a Nintendo Switch action-adventure game released on March 30, 2023 and published by Team17. It follows a fisherman who arrives in the isolated settlement of Greater Marrow after losing his vessel, then takes to the surrounding waters aboard a replacement boat.

Fishing provides the foundation for expeditions across remote islands and unsettling seas. What begins as work on the water gradually reveals strange catches, guarded local secrets, ancient relics, and a wider mystery beneath the surface.

Fishing and exploration

Players sail between fishing spots, shipwrecks, hidden locations, and island communities while catching different fish species. Cargo space must be managed carefully, requiring choices about which catches and items to keep. Tasks from unusual characters and discoveries made across the archipelago help advance the narrative.

Boat progression

Improving the vessel opens access to more distant and hazardous waters. Engines, lights, rods, and trawls can be upgraded to support travel, visibility, and the pursuit of a broader range of catches. Keeping the boat repaired is also important after hazards such as collisions, storms, and attacks.

Danger after dark

The day-night cycle changes the tone of each voyage. Darkness and fog bring increasing danger, including threatening creatures and sanity-draining events. As sanity falls, hallucinations can interfere with navigation and fishing, making the decision to continue onward or return to port a central part of each expedition.
