Hollow Knight is a hand-drawn action-adventure from Team Cherry, released for Nintendo Switch on June 12, 2018. Set in the fallen underground kingdom of Hallownest, it follows the silent Knight as they investigate the calamity known as the Infection.

Hallownest was once a thriving civilization, but its inhabitants have become hostile, mindless creatures under the spreading blight. Environmental details, character encounters, and ancient prophecies gradually reveal the kingdom's tragic past and the truth behind its collapse.

Explore a connected kingdom

The game uses a broad, interconnected world with varied underground regions, hidden routes, secret rooms, and areas that become accessible after gaining new powers. Progress is non-linear, allowing players to choose paths and revisit earlier locations when new movement abilities reveal additional discoveries.

Precise combat and platforming

Combat emphasizes timing, observation, and learning enemy behavior. Creatures, demanding bosses, and platforming challenges test agility and control, while new abilities expand both traversal and combat options. Careful exploration can uncover useful upgrades, including mask shards and vessel fragments.

Adapt with charms

A charm system provides passive effects and buffs that can be combined to suit different situations. Players can experiment with builds for exploration, boss encounters, or their preferred approach to combat. Patience, attention to attack patterns, and returning to previously explored areas are valuable parts of progressing through Hallownest.
