KATANA KAMI A Way of the Samurai Story is an action role-playing game from Acquire, published by Spike Chunsoft. Set around the struggles of swordsmith Kijiro, it combines sword combat, dungeon expeditions, and the responsibilities of running a weapons shop.

After falling deeply into debt to a moneylender, Kijiro's daughter is taken as collateral. He must enter the dangerous Netherworld at night to battle yokai and collect materials, then use the day to forge and sell swords in pursuit of repayment.

A Cycle of Combat and Crafting

The game divides its activities between nighttime danger and daytime business. Netherworld expeditions provide materials through combat and exploration, while the shop lets Kijiro craft, repair, upgrade, enchant, and sell katanas. Managing income and resources supports the effort to reduce the outstanding debt.

Swordplay in the Netherworld

Procedurally generated dungeons change their layouts between expeditions. Kijiro fights supernatural enemies with different sword styles and three stances: Upper, Middle, and Lower. Weapon condition is an important concern, since blades require maintenance and can break if neglected.

Choices and Relationships

Interactions with other characters can build trust and open new opportunities. Decisions about whom to help and how to proceed influence Kijiro's path, with a branching narrative that leads to multiple endings. The game is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
