Monark is a role-playing game from FuRyu, released for Nintendo Switch on October 14, 2021. Set within the mist-shrouded Shin Mikado Academy, it follows a protagonist drawn into a crisis that drives students toward madness and awakens supernatural powers.

The academy’s disturbances are connected to Pactbearers associated with the seven deadly sins. As the protagonist investigates the school and confronts these threats, the story explores psychological conflict, personal identity, and the secrets behind the spreading anomaly.

Tactical battles under pressure

Combat uses a turn-based, grid-focused system in which positioning, character skills, and enemy knowledge matter. The protagonist can command Fiends, demon allies with distinct abilities and personalities, while Authority abilities add further options during encounters.

Madness and Ego development

The Madness system creates a risk-and-reward element in battle. Raising Madness can unlock stronger powers, but excessive strain can lead to a mental breakdown. Choices also shape the protagonist’s Ego, influencing personal development and available strengths.

Exploring Shin Mikado Academy

Progress involves searching the academy’s unsettling halls, investigating clues, solving puzzles, and speaking with characters caught inside the mist. Hidden areas and discoveries help reveal more about the school, its inhabitants, and the pacts at the center of the crisis.

Choices and outcomes

Decisions and relationships affect the course of Monark’s narrative. The game offers multiple endings, giving player choices a role in how the academy’s conflict and its characters’ stories are resolved.
