Monster Hunter Stories brings a different perspective to the Monster Hunter universe. Rather than hunting monsters, players take the role of a Rider who forms bonds with creatures called Monsties, hatching them from eggs and traveling alongside them.

The adventure begins in a peaceful village and grows into a journey involving a special connection with a Rathalos and the spreading threat of the Black Blight. Along the way, Riders explore varied regions, meet new characters, and uncover secrets tied to the world around them.

Turn-Based Battles

Combat uses a three-way Power, Speed, and Technical attack system. Choosing the right response to an opponent's move is central to winning exchanges, while Rider equipment, Monstie abilities, and elemental considerations add further options to each battle.

Raise and Customize Monsties

Monster dens contain eggs that can be hatched into new companions. Monsties provide battle support and riding actions for exploration. Through the Rite of Channeling, genes can be transferred between Monsties to alter their skills and develop personalized teams.

Exploration and Rider Progression

Forests, deserts, and icy areas offer resources, wild monsters, paths to discover, and dens to search. Riders can equip weapons and armor with different skills, while subquests provide additional objectives involving gathering and monster encounters.

Nintendo Switch Release

Published and developed by CAPCOM, Monster Hunter Stories arrived on Nintendo Switch on June 14, 2024. It supports TV, Tabletop, and Handheld play, with options for single-system play as well as local wireless and online play for up to two players.
