ONINAKI is an action RPG from Square Enix for Nintendo Switch, released on August 22, 2019. It follows Kagachi, a Watcher charged with helping souls that remain in the world because of regret.

In this world, reincarnation is central to life, and lingering spirits known as the Lost can endanger the living. Kagachi’s work leads him through personal histories, difficult choices, and a growing mystery connected to the cycle of rebirth.

A world between life and death

Kagachi confronts the Lost by learning about the burdens that prevent them from moving on. The story addresses loss, sacrifice, and enduring connections, while a figure called the Night Devil brings further disorder to the world. Daemons, spiritual companions tied to their own tragic pasts, support Kagachi and reveal more of the setting’s lore.

Real-time battles with Daemons

Combat moves at a fast pace and centers on changing between equipped Daemons. Each Daemon provides a different weapon, abilities, and combat approach, including options such as swords and scythes. Switching during encounters expands tactical choices and can help maintain attack chains against enemies and bosses.

Progression and exploration

Kagachi and his Daemons develop through skill trees, allowing players to focus on preferred attacks and passive abilities. Exploration takes in locations ranging from cities to ruins, with side quests, hidden items, resources, and additional lore found beyond the main path. The game is available in English, German, French, and Japanese.
