04 About Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition

Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition follows Ori, a white guardian spirit, through the decaying forest of Nibel. After the Spirit Tree’s light fades and Naru becomes ill, Ori sets out to restore balance by recovering the elements of Water, Wind, and Warmth.

Developed by Moon Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios, this action-platformer combines an emotional tale of family, sacrifice, loss, and hope with a large interconnected world to explore.

Exploring Nibel

Nibel is filled with intricate environments, environmental puzzles, hidden paths, collectibles, corrupted creatures, and allies and enemies encountered along the way. Ori’s quest gradually reveals the circumstances behind the forest’s decline and the role of Kuro, a giant owl whose actions are shaped by her own tragic past.

Platforming and Abilities

The game uses precise, agile platforming alongside Metroidvania-style progression. New powers expand Ori’s movement and combat options, opening routes that were previously inaccessible. Ori fights with the Spirit Flame, guided by Sein, while a skill tree allows abilities to be upgraded for exploration and combat.

Definitive Edition Content

This edition adds abilities including Dash and Light Burst, along with Spirit Shards that can be combined to alter Ori’s capabilities. Major sequences in locations such as the Ginso Tree and Forlorn Ruins place the game’s movement skills and reflex-based challenges at the center of the adventure.

Art and Music

Hand-drawn visuals present Nibel’s damaged but vibrant landscapes, while an orchestral soundtrack supports the game’s dramatic journey. The visual and musical presentation accompanies Ori’s path from orphaned guardian spirit to the figure working to heal the forest.
