Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive is an action, arcade, and fighting game from Mages for Nintendo Switch. It reworks the classic 2D side-scrolling brawler format around quick combat, combos, special attacks, and character progression.

Cocoa’s older sister, Waka, has been taken by the mysterious Phantom, whose influence draws powerful fighters known as Breakers into conflict. Cocoa joins other distinctive combatants to pursue Phantom, confront rival Breakers, and uncover the motives behind the kidnapping.

Fast-paced brawling

Combat centers on clearing side-scrolling stages filled with enemies through light and heavy attacks, chained combos, and powerful special moves. Dashing and guarding provide defensive options, while learning enemy and boss patterns helps create openings for counterattacks.

Characters and progression

The roster features characters with individual fighting styles, attacks, and strengths. Characters gain experience as they fight, allowing their stats and abilities to be improved. Items and power-ups can also offer an advantage during battles.

Modes and cooperative play

Alongside its story mode, the game includes arcade challenges for further battles. Cooperative play lets players join forces against stages and bosses, combining each character’s abilities while dealing with larger groups of enemies.
