Resident Evil 0 Zero is a 2019 Nintendo Switch adventure from Capcom that revisits the early events of the Resident Evil saga. Set before the mansion incident, it follows rookie S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member Rebecca Chambers as a murder investigation in the Arklay Mountains descends into a biohazard nightmare.

Rebecca encounters Billy Coen, a former Marine lieutenant accused of serious crimes, aboard the abandoned Ecliptic Express. Forced to work together against mutated creatures, the pair uncover evidence tied to Umbrella's experiments and the beginnings of the T-virus outbreak.

Two-character survival

The game centers on Rebecca and Billy, who can be switched during exploration, combat, and puzzle solving. Their differing strengths shape the journey: Rebecca handles herb mixing and certain smaller tasks, while Billy is more resilient in dangerous encounters. Some environmental challenges require both characters to be used thoughtfully.

Inventory without storage boxes

Rather than relying on traditional item boxes, Resident Evil 0 Zero lets players place items on the ground and retrieve them later. Carrying capacity, ammunition, healing supplies, and key objects must be managed carefully, making item placement and backtracking an important part of survival.

Classic horror atmosphere

Fixed camera angles, limited resources, environmental puzzles, undead enemies, and larger bio-organic threats define the experience. Locations range from the Ecliptic Express to a research facility, with documents and discoveries providing additional context for Umbrella and the wider Resident Evil storyline.
