S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky places players in the Exclusion Zone, a hostile landscape shaped by lethal anomalies, mutated creatures, armed groups, and devastating emissions. As Scar, a seasoned mercenary who survives a massive blowout, you are rescued by the secretive Clear Sky faction.

The faction believes repeated emissions are destabilizing the Zone and could lead to a far greater catastrophe. Scar must investigate their cause while moving through contested territory, dealing with groups whose competing goals can alter the balance of power.

Faction conflict and choices

Faction warfare is central to the experience. Players may support different groups, join skirmishes, and help seize territory, with allegiances affecting world conditions as well as available rewards and challenges. The journey visits both new areas and returning locations within the Exclusion Zone.

Surviving the Zone

The game combines first-person combat, survival horror, and role-playing elements. Mutants, hostile stalkers, and military forces require careful tactical encounters, while equipment condition, supplies, and inventory management remain important. Weapons and armor can be upgraded and maintained, and medical items help counter the Zone's many threats.

Anomalies, artifacts, and emissions

Exploration brings players into hazardous anomaly fields, where bolts can be used to identify dangers before crossing. Artifacts offer useful abilities but may carry risks, making artifact containers valuable for reducing their harmful effects. When an emission strikes, immediate shelter is essential.
