Sonic Frontiers is an action game from SEGA that takes Sonic to the ancient, mysterious Starfall Islands. After Sonic, Amy, and Tails become separated and are pulled toward Cyberspace, Sonic sets out to locate his friends while investigating the islands’ abandoned technology and hidden past.

The adventure combines Sonic’s speed-focused platforming with broad areas to explore. Sonic can race across interconnected landscapes, discover routes and collectibles, solve environmental puzzles, and confront the enormous Titans standing in his way.

Starfall Islands and Cyberspace

The Starfall Islands serve as the central setting for Sonic’s journey. Their ruins, Koco technology, and scattered Memos reveal more about the former inhabitants and the events that left the region desolate. Exploration alternates with Cyberspace stages, which offer more direct, linear platforming challenges built around high-speed movement.

Movement, exploration, and progression

Open-zone areas let players run, boost, and grind along rails while searching for pathways, Portal Gears, Memory Tokens, Koco, and other items. Environmental puzzles can open new routes and help advance through the islands. A skill tree allows Sonic’s abilities to be unlocked and upgraded for improved traversal and combat options.

Combat and colossal encounters

Sonic Frontiers introduces a combat system centered on new techniques, including the Cyloop ability. Cyloop can be used against enemies and for certain environmental interactions. Along the journey, Sonic faces powerful foes and multi-stage battles against gigantic Titans, requiring players to observe attacks and exploit openings.
