SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is an action-adventure release for Nintendo Switch from SEGA, released on October 18, 2024. It brings together the contrasting styles of Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic while adding a dedicated storyline for Shadow the Hedgehog.

A new threat disrupts time and space, sending Sonic and his allies across familiar eras and locations. As the Time Eater returns, Sonic must work through remastered stages from his history, while Shadow faces Black Doom in a separate chapter tied to his past and present.

Two Sonic styles

The Sonic portion alternates between Classic Sonic’s side-scrolling 2D platforming and Modern Sonic’s fast 3D stages. Spin dashes, boosting, homing attacks, rails, springs, alternate routes, and hidden collectibles support stages designed around speed and precise movement.

Shadow’s campaign

Shadow has his own campaign and a distinct set of Chaos abilities. Chaos Control can slow time for navigation and combat opportunities, while Chaos Blast is used against groups of enemies. These powers create different traversal and battle options from Sonic’s gameplay.

Stages and challenges

Players revisit reworked locations drawn from Sonic’s history, encounter bosses and returning villains, and search levels for secrets such as Red Star Rings. Multiple paths encourage replaying stages to explore different routes, improve completion times, and find additional content.
