04 About Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a Nintendo collection containing three landmark 3D Mario adventures: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Released for Nintendo Switch in 2020, it spans action, adventure, and platforming across three distinct settings.

Each game retains its own premise, movement systems, collectibles, and worlds. Mario explores Peach's castle, cleans Isle Delfino with F.L.U.D.D., and travels through space among gravity-shifting galaxies.

Three Mario adventures

In Super Mario 64, Bowser has taken Princess Peach and sealed the castle's residents inside paintings, sending Mario after Power Stars. Super Mario Sunshine follows Mario on Isle Delfino, where he is blamed for graffiti left by Shadow Mario and must restore Shine Sprites. Super Mario Galaxy begins after Bowser attacks the Mushroom Kingdom; aided by Rosalina and the Lumas, Mario gathers Grand Stars across the cosmos.

Different styles of 3D platforming

The collection presents three approaches to Mario's 3D action. Super Mario 64 focuses on open exploration and movement techniques such as the triple jump, wall jump, long jump, and backflip. Super Mario Sunshine builds platforming around F.L.U.D.D., which cleans graffiti and can be used for hovering. Super Mario Galaxy centers on small planets, changing gravity, and the Spin Attack.

Exploration and challenges

Across the three games, players run, jump, swim, fly, search for hidden routes, collect the main progression items, and face Bowser and other enemies. Careful exploration can reveal secrets and coins, while mastering Mario's movement and each game's special mechanics helps with more demanding objectives.
