Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is an action-adventure platformer for Nintendo Switch, released on April 24, 2024 and published by Electronic Arts. It follows Zau, a young shaman grieving the death of his father.

Seeking to bring his father back from the afterlife, Zau makes a pact with Kalunga, the God of Death. His journey through Kenzera requires him to face three powerful spirits, with the story exploring grief, acceptance, tradition, and Bantu-inspired mythology.

Sun and Moon Masks

Zau uses two masks with distinct strengths. The Sun mask focuses on close-range melee attacks, while the Moon mask provides ranged projectiles and different traversal options. Switching between them is central to both combat and exploration.

Combat and Movement

Encounters with spiritual enemies call for quick reactions, dodges, parries, special moves, and attention to enemy attack patterns. Platforming challenges use wall-running, wall jumps, dashes, double jumps, and careful aerial movement across Kenzera's dangerous environments.

Exploring Kenzera

The world features vibrant animation influenced by African art and mythology. Hidden routes, collectibles, lore, and upgrades reward players who explore beyond the main path, while environmental puzzles encourage creative use of Zau's abilities.

Languages and Content

The Nintendo Switch release supports English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Base game content, updates, and downloadable content are listed separately.
