04 About Team Sonic Racing

Released for Nintendo Switch in 2019, Team Sonic Racing is a racing game developed by Sumo Digital and published by Sega. It places Sonic and friends in three-character teams, making cooperation as important as individual speed.

The Grand Prix is hosted by the mysterious alien Dodon Pa, whose motives gradually become part of the Team Adventure backdrop. Races take place across courses inspired by Sonic environments, with players selecting familiar characters and tailoring their vehicles.

Racing as a Team

Success is based on the combined result of a three-racer team rather than simply one driver finishing first. Teammates can share Wisps, assist spinning allies with Skim Boosts, and perform cooperative actions to fill the Team Ultimate meter. Activating this ability gives the whole team a powerful advantage at key moments.

Character Classes and Power-Ups

Drivers belong to Speed, Technique, or Power classes, each offering different strengths. Speed characters can boost in mid-air, Power characters can break through obstacles, and Technique characters avoid terrain penalties. Wisps provide offensive and defensive options during races, while drifting, trick actions, ring collection, and track knowledge help maintain momentum.

Modes and Competition

Team Sonic Racing includes Grand Prix, Exhibition, Time Trial, and Team Adventure modes. Players can compete through local cooperative play or online multiplayer, experiment with team combinations, and customize their vehicles for a more personal racing setup.
