This War of Mine: Complete Edition presents war from the perspective of civilians trapped in a besieged city. Rather than commanding soldiers, players oversee ordinary survivors whose health, hunger, safety, and morale must be managed as conditions grow increasingly harsh.

Released for Nintendo Switch on November 27, 2018, this strategy, simulation, and action title from 11 bit studios supports TV, Tabletop, and Handheld play. The Complete Edition includes The Little Ones, adding children to the group and increasing the demands of shelter life.

Shelter During the Day

Daylight keeps survivors inside their shelter because of snipers outside. Time is spent crafting useful items, repairing damage, barricading vulnerable areas, and caring for the people living there. Food, medicine, water, illness, wounds, and despair all require attention, while each character brings an individual background and set of skills.

Scavenging After Dark

At night, one survivor can search dangerous locations for materials, food, and medicine. These expeditions emphasize stealth, planning, and limited inventory space. Meetings with other people may lead to trade or cooperation, but they can also become confrontations. Resource availability and weather conditions change, making survival priorities shift from one playthrough to another.

Choices and Consequences

Survival is closely tied to ethical decisions. Stealing from vulnerable people, sacrificing one survivor for others, or taking risks for supplies can affect the group’s morale and psychological state. The Little Ones adds another layer to these decisions by requiring players to protect children alongside the rest of the shelter’s inhabitants.
