Trine 4 The Nightmare Prince is an adventure platformer from Frozenbyte, published by Modus Games. Released for Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2019, it reunites Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief for a new 2.5D journey.

The trio sets out to locate Prince Selius, whose troubled dreams are taking physical form and spreading danger across the realm. Their route leads through colorful fantasy settings filled with creatures, environmental obstacles, and challenges shaped by the prince's nightmares.

Three heroes, distinct tools

Progress depends on changing between the heroes to suit each situation. Amadeus conjures boxes and planks and can move objects with levitation. Pontius uses his sword and shield for defense, combat, projectile deflection, and gliding. Zoya brings ranged attacks with her bow, while her rope supports grappling, ziplines, bridges, and interactions with distant objects.

Physics-based puzzle platforming

Exploration, combat, and environmental puzzles are closely connected throughout the adventure. Many obstacles encourage inventive use of the heroes' abilities and the surrounding physics, with more than one possible approach to a puzzle. Players can examine areas for hidden collectibles and experience orbs, then improve character skills at checkpoints to gain additional abilities.

Cooperative play

The adventure can be played alone or cooperatively with up to four players through local or online play. In cooperative sessions, combining each hero's skills helps the group handle elaborate puzzles, reach inaccessible paths, and face nightmare creatures and bosses. The game supports English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese.
