04 About Ys Origin

Ys Origin arrives on Nintendo Switch as a prequel set seven centuries before the events of Ys I & II. As demons overrun the land of Ys, humanity retreats to a floating sanctuary created by the goddesses Reah and Feena.

When the two goddesses disappear, knights and sorcerers descend from the sanctuary to the demon-controlled surface. Their search leads into the immense Demon's Tower, where the truth behind the invasion and the history of Ys await.

Three perspectives on Ys

Players can choose from three playable characters, each with distinct weapons, magical abilities, personal motivations, and viewpoints on the central events. These differing approaches change combat styles and add new angles to the story, encouraging additional playthroughs.

Action inside Demon's Tower

Combat takes place in real time, combining quick movement, attacks, spells, dashing, and dodging against groups of demons. Progression comes through experience, improved statistics, new abilities, equipment, artifacts, hidden passages, and treasures found while exploring the tower.

Challenges and extra modes

Boss encounters demand reflexes and attention to enemy patterns. Multiple difficulty settings support different challenge levels, while unlockable arena challenges and time attack modes provide further objectives beyond the main journey.

Developed and published by Dotemu, Ys Origin released for Nintendo Switch on October 01, 2020. It supports English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Italian, and Russian, with releases listed for the USA, Europe, and Japan.
