Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is an action role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom and published by NIS America for Nintendo Switch. It follows adventurer Adol Christin after the passenger ship Lombardia is destroyed by a sea monster during its voyage to Eresia.

Washed ashore on the Isle of Seiren, Adol joins other survivors and helps establish Castaway Village. The island is said to be cursed, and its mysteries become increasingly important as the group searches for a way to escape.

Two connected stories

While exploring Seiren, Adol experiences visions of Dana, a mysterious maiden from the island's distant past. Her story gradually intersects with the castaways' present-day struggle, revealing the history of the island and the events linked to the Lacrimosa.

Real-time party combat

Combat is fast-paced and takes place in real time. Players can switch among party members during encounters, using their different attack styles and abilities to target enemy weaknesses. Flash Guard and Flash Move techniques provide opportunities for defensive timing and counterattacks, while boss battles present larger challenges.

Explore and build a settlement

Seiren includes jungles, ruins, and other areas to investigate for materials, treasure, and survivors. Rescuing castaways expands Castaway Village and opens additional services. Resource gathering, crafting, fishing, equipment upgrades, quests, and village development support the main adventure.

Release details

This Nintendo Switch release arrived on June 29, 2018. It supports English and French and is available for the Europe and USA regions.
