Portal 2 is an action, adventure, and puzzle game from Valve Corporation, released for Nintendo Switch on June 28, 2022. Set within the damaged Aperture Science Laboratories, it follows Chell as she returns to a facility shaped by abandoned test chambers, GLaDOS, and Wheatley.

The game centers on the Portal Gun, which creates linked entry and exit points on suitable surfaces. Using portals, players cross gaps, redirect objects, preserve momentum, and work through increasingly elaborate environmental puzzles.

Aperture Science return

The story begins years after the original game, with Chell waking from stasis in a ruined Aperture Science. Wheatley attempts to guide her escape before events bring GLaDOS back into control. As the facility is rebuilt around new tests, the journey also reaches its older areas and reveals parts of Aperture Science's history through recordings from former CEO Cave Johnson.

Physics-driven test chambers

Puzzle solutions involve more than portal placement alone. Weighted cubes, pressure plates, lasers, turrets, and hazardous spaces require careful use of the environment. Propulsion Gel can build speed, Repulsion Gel creates bouncing surfaces, and Conversion Gel makes some surfaces suitable for portals. Thermal Discouragement Beams, Pneumatic Diversity Vents, and Excursion Funnels add further tools and obstacles.

Momentum and experimentation

Momentum is central to many chambers: speed carried into one portal continues when exiting the other. This allows Chell to launch across long distances, reach elevated areas, or move objects into position. Progress often depends on observing the entire room, considering portal surfaces from different angles, and trying alternative interactions between objects, gels, and movement.

Cooperative campaign

A separate cooperative campaign stars the robots Atlas and P-Body on a mission involving data for GLaDOS. Designed for two players, its chambers require both Portal Guns and coordinated actions that cannot be completed alone. Communication and planning are important when using portals, environmental devices, and the ping tool to indicate points of interest.
