04 About Distrust

Released for Nintendo Switch on July 16, 2019, Distrust is an adventure game published by Alawar Premium. It places survivors of a helicopter crash in a remote Arctic research facility affected by a dangerous alien anomaly.

The survivors must search the frozen base for answers and a way out while confronting hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and increasingly unreliable perceptions. Decisions influence both survival and the path toward one of several endings.

Survival Under Pressure

Resource management is central to the experience. Food, water, scavenged materials, and crafted equipment must be used carefully as the group explores new rooms, restores access to areas, and works through environmental puzzles. Each survivor has individual strengths and vulnerabilities, encouraging players to assign tasks according to their skills.

Sleep, Paranoia, and Illusions

Rest is necessary, but it also carries risk. Sleep deprivation can damage a character’s condition and lead to paranoia, hallucinations, and other negative effects. At the same time, sleeping too much can draw the attention of the alien entities within the base, creating a difficult balance between recovery and vigilance.

An Unpredictable Arctic Base

The research base is procedurally generated, changing the challenges faced from one playthrough to the next. As survivors uncover clues about the anomaly and the facility’s former occupants, they encounter entities that observe and adapt to their actions, while illusions make it harder to know what is real.
